Batting question

Oh my goodness i have a question about batting. I brought some lovely batting it is 225cm wide, when i opened the packet it is on a roll, i found that the batting is folded in half lengthways, now my question is do i quilt using both layers (entire width) or do i cut it in half.

i calculated it. 225cm=88.5 inches. I would not double the batting in a quilt. I would cut it to size of quilt. I am a novice, but it seems that doubling the batting would be heavy. Waiting to hear what the "experts" say.

I wouldn't double the batting. If you're going to quilt it yourself, cut it a little larger than your quilt, I usually leave 1-2 inches around the entire quilt. If you're sending it out to be quilted, longarmers usually want about 6" around.

Personally, I wouldn't double the batting either for the same reason.

I occasionally double batting if I want a heavy quilt or I really want the quilting to show.

I think it depends on the batting and your preference. Some batting is thicker than others and doubling thick batting could make it difficult to quilt and make it heavy. But maybe you want a heavy quilt

I have doubled batting when the batting was thin and had no problems at all quilting

You just cut off the size you need for your quilt considering the fold. Unfold it so any wrinkles relax. I have used double batting without issues but generally use one layer.

No. Just because the batting is folded doesn't mean you are supposed to use it doubled. It is folded so that it won't take up as much room, widthwise. I buy batting by the roll, but it's folded in half. Just cut what you need and open it up.

Oh thank you everyone, I just wasn't sure I am still learning, but was confused when it was doubled over. Will get on with my quilt asap now.

Merry Christmas everyone.

I would unfold it and get on with it. Merry Christmas to you.
