new to me Singer 15, 1955 era

So i found a singer 15 at my local thrift shop for 20.00. did state it needed servicing. When i got it home, and tried running it, i noticed that the needle doesn't go all the way down to catch the bobbin thread. Is this just a needs cleaned up or is this a timing issue?
I haven't taken any pictures of it yet.

Do you know if the correct type needle is inserted?
i woud commence with a manual search, a thorough oiling, and cleaning, particularly in, around, and under the feed dogs. Get a new, correct needle, insert it so the flat side is to the correct orientation, thread correctly, then see.
A lot has to happen badly for the timing to be off.

😊 Ditto what WIChix said. It should take a 15x1 needle.
Does it have a motor with a belt? or not? A manual for Singer 15s can be found at https://www.singer.com/support You will have to scroll down a bit to find the 15 manuals. Perhaps you can figure out the sub-model from https://www.sandman-collectibles.com...r-machines.htm.
