Hand stitching binding
For those of you who hand stitch your binding to the quilt back, do you have a favorite needle you like to use? I can never remember what people recommend and tend to reach for anything handy. I'd like to get whatever needle will do the best job.

I usually use a between size 8 or 9. I also got some binding needles at the LQS. They are long, thin and switching to them helps with hand fatigue. HTH.

I love, love, love my Tulip needles! I think size 10 is what I use.
Between October and December, I hand-sewed binding onto so many customer quilts I actually wore out a needle. I noticed it started squeaking when I pushed it through the fabric, so I pulled out a new needle. What a difference - hot knife through butter! Why do we wait so long to use a new needle, put a new blade on the rotary cutter, break out a new toothbrush, buy new towels? |
Puckish What are tulip needles? I never heard of those.

Anything handy.

I use big long needles with big eyes. I can see them!
What I use look like darning needles next to the tiny little applique needles my friends use. |
I use a John James embroidery needle. They are super sharp and have a larger eye for easy threading.
|
I use my Roxanne applique needle; I guess I chose that because it's longer than the betweens, but I don't really remember what my reasoning was.
|
I too use an applique needle. Mostly because I use the applique stitch to sew my binding down. I have also used betweens but prefer the extra length of the applique needle.
|
I mostly use hand needles that are long and thin.
