Doll hair -- is there any hope?

I have bought a bunch of "collectible" dolls for my granddaughter. I want her to be able to play with them, not save them, but right up front I would like to "fix" their hair. Has anyone successfully combed it? Do I just have to cut it off short? Any ideas are welcome!

You can buy wigs for them. Google and see what is available.

I have seen them fix barbie hair using conditioner google it.

Here are a couple of links. Both use fabric softener.

Wow, I got lots of useful advice from you guys! I have many different kinds of dolls (all bought 2nd hand) and will have opportunities to try out all the varied but yet similar ideas -- thank you!
