Light pad/ light box
I'm considering purchasing a light pad. Who has one? Is it worth getting? What size do you have? What brand?
Any information would be great! I'm liking the pad for its thinness. I'm thinking larger vs. smaller. Thoughts? Thanks! |
I bought one with a 40% off coupon at Michaels. I don't use it a lot, but when I need it, it's a great tool.

I have an HLLION that's about 13 X 20. I looked at reviews online. It's barely 1/2" thick and I am happy with it.

It expend on how much you are going to use it and the purpose. I just do a little embroidery work so I bought the Crayola children’s light pad at Walmart for under $15 and it about the size of a regular sheet of paper.If you plan to do a lot of appliqué or landscape quilting then you will want to invest in a larger, high end light pad.

Most of my collages are big, so I just use my patio door, but that light pad looks very cool. I agree bigger= better.

I have an Autograph 950 Lightpad. Great reviews, I have had it for two years. it's 17 x 24 inches. I use it all the time. I bought it on Amazon, at the time it was $150 off, many art stores have discounts too.

Soooooooo .... I hate spending $$ if I don't have to!
My light box is an old drawer (or you could use any drawer). Flashlights in the drawer and a piece of plexi over the top. (when I first used a drawer, I just used one of my quilting square rulers) Painters tape to hold the original in place. Clamps to hold the fabric on the outer edges. Painters tape where the clamps won't reach. And .... when I need a flashlight .... I always know where to find one/them!! :) :) |
Depends on what you want to use it for. I received a small light pad for Christmas last year, about 10x12" and less than 1/2" thick, and it's great for small to medium appliqué tracing. It has a USB plug in and I had to use one of the transformers from my phones for it; it didn't come with one. But I'm quite pleased--it helped me finally finish my "18 years of Christmas" quilt.
I'm pretty sure it was bought on Amazon for less than $20. |

Love this light pad. Super thin. I've had it a year and no problems. Amazon offered $75 off if I applied for their credit card, so I did. Best thing because I now get 5% cash back on all Amazon purchases! I also cut glass for stained glass, so it serves a double purpose. Way better than tracing a pattern taped to a glass door! |
