1930's Twin Brothers Basketball Jersey Quilt from Steubenville, OH
 

I am a sports memorabilia collector and folk art lover, but I never saw a quilt I ever wanted to own. That is until I found this one. It was hanging in my antique store in Southern California of all places for years. Finally the guy relented and sold it to me. The paperwork it came with documents about the twin brothers from Steubenville, Ohio who wore the jerseys. Figured this would be the place to ask about the rarity or price for an item like this. Thanks hope you like the quilt as much as I do.

My first thought is this quilt is probably more valuable as sports memorabilia rather than a quilt, but I am no expert. You should bring it to a quilt appraiser in your area.

BTW, I do love the folkiness of it.

First of all welcome to the QB from SE Michigan. This is a unique quilt and should go to an appraiser to find out its true value. I agree with ekuw that it is more valuable as sports memorabilia. Keep it safe.

Very unique quilt and looks all hand pieced and 'tie quilted'.
Without seeing the back of the quilt I don't know if the cross hatch stitches
go through to the back or are just on the front. I see that they have been
used on the binding also.
You could contact a local museum and see if they have or know of a textile
expert to look at the quilt. Your local college or Junior College should also
be able to give you the name of someone to help.
It has places that need repair, but don't do anything to it until you get it evaluated.
