Fusible Stabilizer for Scarf Quilt
A friend of mine's grandmother passed away recently. She wore a lot of scarves, so my friend wants me to attempt to make a wall-hanging out of them so she can give it to her mom (the daughter of the lady who passed away). I've first got to lightly iron the scarves and make sure that they iron well. What fusible stabilizer/interfacing would you recommend? I went to Hobby Lobby and found either a featherweight or lightweight and a SF-101. I think those two were what I saw. I can also go to Joann's or a regular quilt store. For my T-shirt quilts, I use a woven stabilizer that I buy from my quilt store. Maybe, it would be comparable to the SF-101 since it is woven. Any advice would be appreciated. Also, does anyone have a pattern that comes to mind that I could make from these scarves?
Thank you all so much for your input! I just want to make my friend happy with this quilt/wall-hanging. LaDonna |
I would go with a very light weight stabilizer. Will this be a 3-D project or flat to the stabilizer? This could make a difference in what you use.

I searched in Bing using the term Hankie quilts and found several fun examples. You could make a woman's body on the top and then use the scarves as the skirt, letting them hang free. Some cute ideas here for storage that could be converted to a quilt idea. https://hative.com/creative-scarf-st...display-ideas/
Another idea would be to make a large Dresden Plate using pieces of all the scarves. Or how about a Southern Belle quilt block but leave the skirt as 3D? https://www.bing.com/shop?q=southern...28A1FC7C0A6261 Or, you could just pick a block pattern and make every block a 2 color block with the same background and a single scarf featured for all the colored pieces in each block. Float the blocks with background fabric for the sashing to give definition to the blocks. This Pinterest page has several good ideas. Stars of different colors would work well. https://www.pinterest.com/anniesews/two-color-quilts/ |
