Don't do to much when tired.

I walked in my studio this morning and looked up on my design wall and said to my self, " that is wrong"!

either its wrong or you have created a new pattern

Well, you know the old tradition. Every quilt has to have a deliberate mistake. This was accidental, but it seems to me you ought to get extra points for that.

All I can say is my seam ripper is my best friend. In fact I have several best friends in my sewing room...lol

Agree - was working on a quilt the last few days that is made up of 20 16 patch blocks set on point, with hourglass blocks in between. Cut 20 sets of hourglass blocks, and then proceeded to sew them into 20 blocks, press and trim.
Went to sew the two sets of block together, and realized that a bit under half of the hourglass blocks needed to be ripped as half blocks are used for the setting triangles all around the outside of the quilt. Had I stopped and looked at the pattern before starting on sewing the hourglass blocks, I'd have realized my thinking was not correct. But that is why I keep a seam ripper at my sewing machine, and another at the ironing board - ripping is just another part of the process for me, |
🎼one of these things is not like the other....well at least it wasn’t sewn into a top yet.

I have been taking apart a donated top. It was much too large for what we need so why not make a single and a throw? Good idea, until I tried to put some of the pieces back together. I swear that two different people worked on this top. One person measured the sashing and proceeded to apply it to piano key sections that were significantly longer--lots of bowing and ballooning. The other just slapped the sashing on and then cut--14 1/2 inch blocks sashed on 2 sides but the sashing ranged in lenght from 14 1/2 inches to 14 7/8 inches. Yes, the blocks were stretched out of shape. Had to dampen and gently manipulate them back to their proper size. Argh!!
This will be a pretty top--when it is put back together properly. I do sometimes wonder if it is worth the effort. |
