Giving up and biting the bullet
 

I've finally bit the bullet. Made the decision to go through my fabric and only keep what I know I will use this year. So far I've cleared out three dresser drawers that were packed, keeping only one drawer with what I'm not selling. I still have two drawers to go through...this will be a slow month long process for me. Oh...and I have two chest of drawers not just one! Is it liberating? Yes and no. It took two days to go through, price, journal (description, maker, length, price and photograph) so that I could list everything...and all at based on $6 a yard. Maybe when I get finished it will be liberating when I get to go buy a few new pieces. And I haven't even gone through the quilt books yet!!

I think I'm on the verge of another purge... but I'm looking at "am I really going to use it in 5 years". Sadly, I have a lot that doesn't even meet that criteria.

I do a purge of fabric at least every two years but. I was told fabric prices are increasing drastically in the next few months so now I am buying more then I usually keep on hand.

You will feel the surge of freedom when it is out of your house and the dollars are in your hand.

Please provide link to your listing. You might have someone's "I need it!"

Oh this would be very hard for me to do! Kudos to you for recognizing what you will use.

And yes fabric prices are rising by quite a bit. I work in an LQS and shop owner shared with me the increase information just this last week. Pellon products and thread are also rising.

Oh how brave! I admire your ability to go thru it all. The most I have been able to conquer is to go thru and get rid of prints that are "leftover" from making a quilt. If I fall in love with a precut and purchase extra yardage for whatever reason. Once the quilt is made, I am done with the print. I put it on the free table. I do keep all batiks and 30's. Wow, good for you!! I can't ever do this. I'll go through occasionally and think, why did I buy this, and get rid of it, but if I still like the fabric I just can't let it go easily. I know some day I'll use. Then it sits there! haha!

And like Onebyone said prices are going up soon due to issues with cotton and how popular sewing/quilting has become recently. I've been told this by at least three different small quilt shops. Most recently just yesterday from MSQ. I called about a mix up with an order and we joked about buying fabric and how expensive it's getting and I think they (and the other shops I've talked to about this) are probably concerned because they're going to be the ones to deal with the brunt of everyone getting upset about the prices since they have absolutely NO control over them.

I am not getting rid of any of my stash. I am still trying to use it up. I do add to it not and then. I donate or give away most of my quilts.

I give you a lot of credit. I've thought about selling some of mine, but honestly, The measuring, calculating, photographing, listing, then keeping track of sales, calculating postage, packaging and mailing seems like an insurmountable task.

Besides, what if I get rid of that one perfect fabric??
