Pattern suggestion for 1930 themed fabric?
Hello all,
Does anyone have suggestions of what would be the best pattern for a 1930's themed quilt? I have at least a dozen pieces of 30's fabric, but unfortunately only about a quarter yard of each. Some have fairly large patterns, if I'm going to try to show that off. I would like to do a honeybee quilt, but I'm not sure if I want to use this fabric. Seems like the pattern should be something special, maybe a little more old-fashioned to go with the look of the fabric. I'm just not sure, I'm such a newbie, I really don't know what I'm doing haha. I'm interested to hear opinions. |
My mother recently gave me some quilt blocks her grandmother made. These were probably made in the 40s or early 50s but use fabrics from earlier. They are sawtooth star and a block my mother calls floral bouquet. If you Google it you’ll see examples…also resembles an ice cream cone!
my great grandmother used many fabrics to create the blocks, perhaps you could mix vintage with contemporary, vintage reproduction to achieve the look you want. |

Single Irish Chain with applique centers looks great in the vintage fabrics. They also look amazing with hand embroidery centers.

These blocks would show the prints. The left-over pieces can be made into HST for a fun border.

If you Google 1930 quilts, you might find one you like. A lot of 1930 patterns use prints with a light background fabric.

The quilt in sewbizgirls comment is so pretty. It looks like a square in a square block to me with flying geese around the whole outer edges. Very pretty and I have some fabrics I could use in a quilt like this. Love it!

How about Dresdon Plate - I have a quilt my grandmother made from feed sacks in the Dresdon Plate and the fabrics sparkle.
