periwinkle quilt

I purchased the periwinkle template for charm squares. The stretch periwinkle uses a 5x13 strip to cut the sides to make it square. I don't know how to do the math for the strip to get the angled sides that make a square so you can sew 4 together for a full block.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you,
Evelyn

Missouri Quilt Company sells the templates and show tutorials. I am no help because I don't have the templates.

Have you watched the video for making this quilt? It should help, and if I didn't have a 10" ruler I would use my 12" for cutting the square.

the video for the small template is not the pattern I want to make. Thank you though.

Periwinkle video

I was going to refer this video also since Jenny calls for a 5" by 13" rectangle to put on each side of the template piece. The name is Stretched Periwinkle and uses the large template. Four of these put together make a 19" block.
Watch starting at the three minute mark to see how Jenny does the side pieces.

the 5/13 is what I need to cut down. want to do that pattern with the 5 inch periwinkle. There is no block I have found so far that takes the stretch, which is too big for me, and makes same pattern from charm squares The sides are what I can't figure measurement for.

Try this video. Jenny is using a paper template to complete the piece. I think you can figure out the size of the paper template and base your cuts on that. Good Luck.

I was playing with what I think is the periwinkle block - and variations thereof.

Maybe the attached drawings will help?

The center four-sided shape is made of a HST with a triangle added to it. One can change the proportions and get different looks.

I like the idea of using fewer pieces (and fewer seams) as shown in the second scan. This would make a great hand-piecing project.

This really is not answering the original poster's question, because I do not know exactly what template(s) she is using.

I am using the periwinkle for charm squares your bottom drawing on the right is perfect but not sure dimensions of the side s that make it a complete square. I am just not mathematically inclined.

This is a different method using triangles instead of rectangles to make a square block using the template for charm squares.
