How do you clean grout?
 

The grout in my bathroom floor needed a good scrubbing. A woman at walmart told me about how she cleaned grout. She use to have a housekeeping service. She said use Lysol toilet bowl cleaner and put a bead along the grout lines. Then take a brush mop and brush it. Mop it clean and the grout will be like new. If very stained, then leave the cleaner on for a few minutes. I tried it and it works great! I did my shower walls too. Only thing I don't care the smell of the Lysol toilet cleaner, it's weird. But doesn't linger.

Thanks for that tip. If I ever redo my bathroom, I am going to do slabs of granite or marble or "something", that will have no grout lines.

When we put an addition on our house upteen years ago I wanted ceramic tile on our kitchen floor. Went to the tile store and picked out what I wanted. Man there said trick with keeping grout clean was to seal with 6 - yes, 6 - coats of sealer. Thankfully that stuff dries really quickly. I spent 2 days sliding around on the floor with a little paint brush putting on that sealer. But, the grout on my kitchen floor cleans up like a charm. When the tile guy installed the wall tiles in our bathroom, he wasn't quite as diligent - plus the grout lines were much thinner. They get a little scummy. I usually use SoftScrub on my bathroom tile and it seems to work quite well.

If I ever redo my tile I will insist on the grout line be even with the tile edge. My grandmother's tile was this way and her grout always looked clean as the day it was put in. I don't know how many layers of sealant is on my tile, probably not very many. I have been in some of the new homes being built in the new estate divisions around town. These homes are shortcutted to death. Up to code seems to be the only concern, the rest is if it looks good and new it's fine.

Resolve Carpet Cleaner works great for cleaning grout in tiles. It has a nice smell (to me at least) too. Just put it on and scrub with a brush. I used a toothbrush.

Just make sure you get something that isn't "slippery when wet"!!!

You are right about that. We didn't know that when we put marble tiles in our front bath about 20 years ago. We NEVER walk on that floor with wet feet. I always have rugs down. I won't make that mistake again.

I wonder if this would work at the base of the toilet. Where it is caulked at the base.

I have light-colored tile and grout in my bathroom. I had Stanley Steamer to do my carpets and they clean grout also. After it was cleaned I had them seal it. This has been good now for about 8-9years.

I have used bleach in the past to clean my grout, but not anymore because it gags me. I now use 91% alcohol, I pour a little on the grout line and use a small brush to give it a light scrub, works really well.
