Falling Squares
 

How would you quilt a falling squares quilt to make the squares stand out? I think the pattern is a version of a d9p. Thank you.

You could just quilt the white section, maybe feathers or McTavishing. I think I would also stitch-in-the -ditch around each square.

I use a squiggle lines on squares, with a slight contrasting color.

Thank you for suggestions. The squares are black. The white areas have a red cornerstone piece. If I decide to quilt the white areas, does anyone have suggestions for thread color? Should I use white thread or a Iight red thread or maybe a gray?

I was thinking white for quilting thread but keep second-guessing myself. Would appreciate input from those who have more experience with it.

To get an idea of what each will look like, something that is often done is to pull thread off the spool and spread over the quilt top. Not exactly like the finished product will be, but it does give you a good idea.

Choice is really personal.
Some want the quilting to stand out.
Some want it to do its job, but not be the star of the show!
A closer match on thread/fabric, will be more forgiving for any oopsies in the quilting. Contrast helps emphasize the work of your quilting. A subtle variegation in the thread can be quite effective too.

As above ... it really is your choice, as to what effect you really want.

One thing that I'll add about thread/fabric contrast or lack of. The closer the match, sometimes makes it harder to "see" as you quilt. A slight contrast can still be very forgiving, but make life easier on our eyes! (ask me how I know! :))
