Need help please...
 
Can someone tell me how many 2-1/2" squares I can get out of a 21" X 30" piece of fabric....i am sewing scaps together so I can get some 2-1/2" squares out of it for corner stones in a scrap quilt..appreciate anyone that can tell me..I gave my calculator to a friend since I never used it..go figure...uh oh

8 per strip. 12 strips in 30”. 96 2.5” blocks

This is my answer too with the caveat that the 30” side has to be a full 30”.

You're also going to want to readjust the fabric and recut the edge at some point to ensure you don't get bent strips.

Another hint: Your search engine is a calculator. Type “30/2.5=” into the google search bar and the answer (and a calculator) will pop up. In the search bar, just use the / for divided by and * for multiplied by. No Ned for that calculator you gave away.

I would count on eight 2.5 inch squares from a 21 inch wide piece of fabric.

I would only count on eleven 2.5 inch strips from a 30 inch length of fabric.

The way I lay my ruler out and cut, I usually end up with my strips being 2-3 threads wider than the "target number" - so by the time I have cut several strips, my theoretical usage should have been something like 15 inches, but my actual usage would probably be closer to 15.5 inches.
