Straight Pins
 

I'm tired of buying pins that aren't sharp. Could you please share any information on which pin/pins that you consider the best?

Oh yes, I have had that problem. One time (probably more than once) I bought some that were as dull as the ones I wanted to replace.
I like those long glass head pins but I'm sorry I can't think of the name.

I think I use to get the ones Susie is talking about from Nancy's Notions. I buy a bunch at one time and I am about ready for more. A real shame you can't buy long good pins at the stores.

Before you stick your pin in the fabric, run it through your hair a couple of times. It will sharpen! Before long you will have them all sharpened.

i did that with diaper pins - remember those ?

. I like the glass head pins from Clover. They have always been sharp. I usually get the Patchwork pins.

Yes, I remember diaper pins. And plastic pants on the outside.
I use those glass head pins also.

I believe Tartan is talking about "Magic Pins" and they come in several different colors.
I like the Bohin pins.
What I learned from a quilt teacher at the Houston show several years ago is that oftentimes cheap, low quality pins aren't always dull per se, the sides are sort of pock-marked and rough, so they don't glide smoothly in the fabric. If you're shopping at Joann's or another big box store, look for pins that say "nickel plated".

Yep, run it through your hair, not sure why it works, probably the slight amount of oil in your hair, but the pin will glide right in. Who knew those endless diaper changes would lead to a lifelong, useful tip!
