Leonardo de Vinci quilt

I finished my 3rd sketch quilt. I was so excited to finally have it done. The chalk marks show where I had to sew it for it to look the way I wanted.

I handsewed with 2 layers of stitching (shallow and medium) and machine stitch for more depth and to stabilize the quilt to give it the 3D faux-trapunto effect.

I started it in October so glad it's done. It has 2 layers of batting - cotton and acrylic so it has a nice weight and is warm!

Each time I make a sketch quilt it's an experiment because I haven't seen other quilts like this.

Wow, stunning! Can you tell us more about sketch quilts? Is the sketch something you draw? Is it a panel? I am sure others also want to know.

I've not seen this method anywhere else so I've dubbed it 'Sketch Quilting'. I take a panel with something already on it, a sketch is one I start with, and do a ton of shallow and medium depth hand stitching thread layers, following up with machine stitching for deeper stitches and to stabilize the quilt. I also use different shades of thread to make it lighter or darker where I want it to be that way.

If anyone has seen this technique before please let me know.

I have seen it done. A friend of mine used to do a good deal of it with machine stitching.

Yours is very pretty.

There are no words to announce how beautiful this quilt is and how unique it is. I have never seen anything like this. Your talents are beyond words. You did a marvelous job on this creation. Thank you so much for sharing.

So beautiful! Love that you found a way to enhance a DaVinci drawing into a textured quilt. I wish I could see it in person.
