I'm drawing a blank for a pattern using novelty sporting fabrics..Your ideas??
Please give me you ideas for a pattern:
I want to make a baby quilt for my grandson ,on the way, using prints of the following 5 sports: Basketball, Soccer, Football, Baseball and Golf. I haven't purchased the fabric yet because I can't decide on a pattern to know how much fabric I need. I did a search on Etsy for sports theme fabrics and found a good variety that you can purchase in cuts less than a yard if need be. When I try to think about putting the prints together in a quilt it seems like the quilt gets so busy there's not place for the eye to rest. For me its hard to picture lots of ball prints together. The quilt size will be for tummy time, or crib size. Thanks bunches for your input. |

I did a disappearing nine patch using my dad's favorite sports team. I chose coordinating solids for the patches that get more sliced up and used the focus fabric in the corners of the nine patch as they do not get cut up. The solids would give the eye a place to rest and it makes a nice layout.

I second a disappearing nine patch. Keep the focus fabric in the large squares. Another idea, someone recently posted a B12 quilt with a Kaffe focus fabric. As busy as his fabrics are, it looked wonderful. Sorry I don't have a photo.

I've used disappearing 9 patch and also the double slice for an I Spy quilt.

You say it's a baby quilt, but you didn't say it was a crib quilt. If it's a "tummy time" size, you might consider making it like an "I spy quilt" (my favorite quilt to make). I've made them using the disappearing 9 patch and pattern really liked them. I have also made them as "happy blocks". It's a "play' quilt that they will enjoy while really young and use as a quilt as they get older. Here's a photo of a "happy blocks" I spy quilt. A good place to find an assortment of fabric is 4my3boyz.com. She sells in fat quarters, too.
This is a photo of the quilt I made for my grandnephew. This was my first of many I spy quilts. bkay |
That was a BQ12 pattern as an alternate pattern. I left out the Q.

MSQC Falling Charms might work.

I did this Zig Zag/Cheveron quilt for my neighbor's new baby.

How about a bug jar baby quilt? The background could calm down the busy sports prints,
