How do I find a quilt appraiser?

I'm close to finished on the most difficult quilt of my life, Little Brown Bird. It's taken me 8 years to make and while I still have the binding and label to do I'm starting to think ahead. Everyone tells me I need to enter it into a quilt show but I want to be able to insure it if I send it off. To do that, I need to have it appraised. How you do find an appraiser other than at a quilt show? Does anyone have a suggestion for me?

Check with local guilds and quilt shops. Some have appraisers visit every year or so.

I googled “quilt appraisers of America”. And came up with this list, might give you some contact info for your area.

I second this. My guild actually has a quilt appraiser who is a member.

Your quilt is a real masterpiece. I'm glad you're going to be showing it. Let us know what shows it's in so we can try to attend.
