Starching Jeans
My son asked if I would starch his jeans. Of course I agreed. Can someone tell me how long I need to soak them in the washer in Stayflo mixture etc. It has been at least 35 years since I’ve done this.
Any help is appreciated Rward |
way back in the 1950s - Mom would just dip her husband's overalls in "the starching bowl" and wring them out and line dry
i think she used Argo starch - with Satina added to it. Starch - put some in huge bowl - add enough cold water to get the starch wet - looked cloudy - added boiling water -then it got sort of not cloudy - there probably were directions on the package for proportions of water to starch could be made from runny to thick |
I us Stayflo all the time. I starch most of my fabric before cutting. I mix it equal parts 1/2 gal of starch and 1/2 gal water. dip fabric in starch mixture they wring out and line dry. Should be the same with jeans.

You could also hang the jeans up and spray with starch. No need to fill the washer.
Use the starch full strength. Repeat the starch if needed. |
hmmm... 50+ years ago, I was a new bride, DH was in the Marines, needed his utilities starched and pressed. I did my best, but it wasn't good enough. He ironed his own utilities from then on, and we both were happy. (At least I was.)

Oh, just a thought. I bought a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. I keep my starch mixed in it all the time. Mine is always ready. Dear hubby knows not to even touch this bucket. It is part of my quilting space.

I am with Dunster--new bride, hubby in Army--found a local laundry that would do that starching ! One volunteered to dry clean-No, had to be starched !
