My Boxy Tote

3 Attachment(s)
I finally got pics of the Boxy Tote that I made for my Featherweights. Phew! It was something else. There are a lot of layers of fabric and foam to deal with. My new Bernina 475 didn't like to at all so I fired up my Artista 180 that I bought at an estate sale and it sewed right thru all those layers like a champ. It has lots of pockets inside and out and a fair amount of padding so I'm really happy with it. I'm in the process of making a padded interior for my Tutto bag similar to the one that came with my 475 for use with this soft tote. I also made a little padded drawstring bag to put the foot pedal in so it won't scratch the machine.

The pattern is from quiltsillustrated.com and the pattern number is # ps 056
I had just looked up a similar pattern for an acquaintance at quilt retreat in Shipshewana and she wanted the tool tote pattern.

It was a bit tough. Mostly because you were sewing thru 2 layers of foam 6 or 8 layers of fabric and a layer of fusible fleece at some points. My 475 couldn't handle it but my trusty 180 sewed it like a charm. Now I know that the 180 is what I'll use for bags.

Her instructions were good though and there were diagrams and pics. If you kept all the pieces labelled it helped a lot, too.
