It looks like something from one of kumiko sudo's applique books. This is one unit of the block

Do you know what it’s called so I can search it to find a pattern?
|
I'm sorry I don't, I sold all my quilt books a few years ago. All I know is it looks like her designs. There are lots of us here, someone will come along to help, it could also be a pattern from the 30's newspapers :)

I don’t know but it kinda reminds me of a fleur de lis design.
|
it does. that was a good thought. i saw a fish first due to the blue i guess. then crown. Not much luck so far.

I thought it was a flier de lis as well. I have searched high and low on the internet and have not been successful in finding this pattern as of yet.

It is possible that it was “original” to the maker. From drawings in Barbara Brackman’s Encyclopedia of Appliqué, it has things in common with both 8.47 — Lombardy Lily and 8.75 — Amaryllis/Scarlet Amaryllis, both designed by Nancy Cabot, as well as 8.18 — Lily of the Valley by Ladies Art Company. There are each in Barbara’s category for “ Four Tulips”. That center petal with the side petals tucked under looks very unusual as you usually see the opposite. The Lilly of the Valley block has that sort of look.
