2 7/8 inch folded binding
 

Has anyone used binding this wide? I bought some 2 7/8 inches bias bindings. folded they are still quite wide. I'm not sure I like that. I want to use them on an apple core quilt that has curves on all side edges. sigh.
more decisions to make. I feel like trimming the binding down and refolding and pressing it. Don't really want to do that work.
I got this from Wawak in New York. They have been in business since 1907 but I'd never come across them before. They sell tons of stuff. Anyway, anyone use this wide bias binding.???

I've made my own wide binding, I think it was 3". I decided I really liked it because it made for a very comfy edge on the quilt, it didn't feel like a thick, heavy cord at the edge.

I also use bindings 2-7/8 to 3 inches wide. It finishes at approximately 1/2 inch wide. I like the look.

I just trim them down from the raw edge and that seems to work. Easier than opening up and pressing. I like bindings 2 1/4

I have heard of Wawak but never bought from them. I've heard good things.

If you are going to use the binding for curved edges, I'd use something a bit narrower. I find wide bias bindings are harder to use on curves and have them come out nice.

I have ordered from Wawak several times with great results. I guess binding is a personal preference.

I agree with Cashs Mom. For curved edges, I'd want a narrower binding. I have used wider binding. I quite like it when I am attaching both sides with a machine instead of hand stitching.

I bind all my quilts with bias binding that I make myself. I've learned that 2-3/4" is the best width for general use. When I make a narrower binding it's always because I don't have enough fabric to make it wider and I usually wish for something a bit wider. It all depends on the fluffiness of the quilt.
I also agree that for a lot of curves a narrower binding would work better. Keep the wide binding that you bought and make your own for the apple quilt. It's easy peasy with pressing it in half being the most tedious step.
