Has anyone used electric rotary cutter?
 

I have severe hand problems and was browsing Amazon for ergonomic rotary cutters (I have the martelli but can't easily change the blade). I saw the electric rotary cutters and wondered if anyone has one or has used one.

I have an Allstar AS-100 electric rotary fabric cutter. I don't use it though because the raised edge on my TrueCut rulers won't work with this cutter, It you decide to purchase an electric cutter make sure the cutter's base will work with your rulers.

Yes...I used one when I was in apparel manufacturing. They can cut through many layers of fabric at once. They're big and heavy and difficult to use all day. Some cutters hang them on a ceiling pulley system to lighten the load. I would not recommend them for the quilter.

You may want to check out the electric die cut machine from Accuquilt, Go Big. You can cut stips, triangles, and squares in all the basic sizes. I use the manual crank Go and don't have to use the rotary cutter very much at all.

Thanks - I do have the Accuquilt Go Big but sometimes I need to do some cutting with the rotary cutter and besides (sigh) I am a gadget junkie .... I don't think the electric rotary cutter is for me - my hands can't use heavy tools.

There will soon be a laser fabric cutter for home use. I think I read Accuquilt is involved. Have you seen the new fabric printer for home use? Mini version of Spoonflower. So many new marvels coming our way for quilting and sewing.

I see you've decided against it, but what I've been thinking about as my vision/ability to cut fails, is I will switch to kits that are precut. Ot first blush they seem expensive, of course there is labor involved, but since I quit buying fabric many years ago, I think I can afford it ;) For me I can't justify the cost and space of an accucut machine.

I've seen them in action at fabric stores and have often wondered how accurate they could possibly be.
