applique and starch

2 Attachment(s)
Hello friends, I have started an appliqué quilt, using the starch-with-a-paintbrush-then-iron-under method to turn under the edges before hand sewing. It's working well, but I'm seeing "water marks" along the edges. Is this normal and will it wash out, or am I doing something wrong? I've prepped 2 blocks out of 30, but don't want to go any further until I know it can be fixed. Pic for explanation.
Thanks!

I have used that method and the rings washed out.

I think instead of water marks, it is the drying starch that is leaving the mark. Not a problem as it will wash out.

ITA with Quiltsfor. It’s the starch you painted on, and it will wash out.

I soak my blocks after all done with the appliqué. Mildly warm water with a bit of Dawn dish washing soap. Leave your block in the water long enough to soften up the spray starch. I also use glue to secure my pieces and a washable blue marker to show placement of my pieces. Rinse well and dry on a towel. I press my finished piece from the back.

when I could still do it this was my favorite method. As the ladies have said, it's just darker from the starch and it will disappear, possibly even with just working it. Beautiful work!!

Thank you all sooo much! I feel like I finally found an applique method that worked or me, and I was a bit deflated thinking it wasn't going to work after all. Thanks again, onward with my project!

This is the method I have been using lately ( vs using needle-turn applique) and I really am pleased with the results. I haven't had any problems with the marks not coming out.
