Husqvarna Viking #1+ Free Motion
Hello! I inherited a Husqvarna Viking #1+ machine. I am trying to do some free motion sewing and am having difficulty. I have attached the darning foot to the "post" and lowered the feed dogs. I have pulled the bobbin thread up through the fabric and lowered the foot to begin sewing, but I cannot get the fabric to move at all. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for your help. |
When doing FMQ, you make the fabric move. Have you watched any videos on FMQ? That might help.

Hi @kmoore9<3
t appears that using your husqvarna viking #1+ machine for free motion embroidery is a good idea. a few suggestions for solving the problem; make sure the darning foot is properly secured and set to remain slightly above the fabric. Make sure that the thread length is zero because the feed hooks need to be disconnected. Additionally; to account for the longer thread used in free motion sewing, try reducing the tension a little amount. |
the feed dogs is what helps the fabric move in free motion you lower the feed dogs and you move the fabric

yes. you have to move the fabric when you do free motion quilting. It helps to get some of those gloves with the rubber nobs to help you move the fabric, also if you have an extension table so you have more support for the quilt and even better if you have a sewing cabinet that you can set the machine into so the cabinet supports the quilt. Free motion takes practice!

I have an old Viking that I used for free motion and struggled until....I dropped the feed dogs. Oh, Duh on me. After than it is just practice, practice, practice. Try the gloves, some folks like them others do not. Watch videos of FM using any machine. The hints and cues are invaluable.
Do you have the owner's manual. That will also give you help so your machine is ready to work for you. If you don't have the manual, most are available online. Happy FM quilting. |
