How long do you wait?
Once you've made a quilt, and swore you would never ever make one like that again...how long before you change your mind? I made a Donna Jordan Lone Star a year ago. It's huge, and colorful and I love it. Affectionately call it the beast. Promised myself that was it. Yesterday she posted a Little Dipper Lone Star. I've already watched the video twice! I'm trying really, really, really hard to convince myself not to do it! But I want to....how long do you wait to break a promise you made to yourself?!

about a year.... ;-)
(kidding. I watched that video too, and want to make one as well. She sure makes it look possible, huh?) |
the scrappy little lone stars were cute :) I wasn't tempted though, I don't like all the space around the lone stars.
I've been making quilts since 1970 (a much slower process then) and have only made 2 patterns more than once. Blooming 9 patch, and tumblers. So many quilts so little time! |
I don't wait any particular amount of time. If I make a quilt and want to repeat it again with new fabrics and new ideas and (fingers crossed here) new skills I jump in and go for it. After taking on a challenging quilt I would expect that you would have developed some new skills.
I have made a number of quilts a second time. Let's see.... HST's in the barn raising layout, one of the Mystery Train patterns from here on the board, Lori Holt's Cris-Crossed Stars are three I can recall immediately. Oh, log cabin of course. On the other hand there are some patterns that I have done as a challenge and shout hurrah when it is finished and move on. I conquered the challenge and don't have any desire to do another. Like KalamaQuilts said, "so many quilts and so little time." BTW, Donna Jordan makes everything look easy and usually it is. :) |
When the mood strikes me and I have mojo which comes and goes. I made 3 different Red Centre quilts kind of close together. I love that pattern.

I just make my promises to myself like this "I never am going to make this again.....for now!"
Gives me an out in case I change my mind. |
Typically I don't like to do a lot of repeats -- I have made multiple log cabins and 9-patches and other thing, usually with some time between them.
Other times I get caught on a particular design. Either because in doing I figured out what I would have rather done, or I'm exploring options, or other reasons. Whatever makes you happy is the answer! Can be years apart or back to back. |
I loved that video too!
I was thinking that rather than making multiple little lone stars, I could just make one and use it at the centre of a medallion quilt. |
Also loved the pattern and the video! I really loved the scrappy stars - left wondering if all the stars could be scrappy?
You have my permission to make this! |
I watched the video too, and was tempted. But by the time I finish the quilt I'm piecing, and the one on the longarm, I'll have probably forgotten all about the little lone stars.
my-ty, it will look great if it's all scrappy. |
