I turned my wedding dress into a quilt - Ask Me Anything

The primary reason I got into quilting 15 years ago was to get good enough to do this. Note - my photography sux so you might have to zoom in - I also have more pictures I can post in the comments.

I'm posting here because I'm crazy proud of this dress and while my family and friends are impressed, I'm hoping you guys really "get it". And I learned a TON on this journey that I'd really like to share if you are interested.

Basics:
  • Dress fabric - dupioni silk, undyed
  • I used the same tulle interfacing that the dressmaker did
  • Yes I had to use supplemental fabric. Not quite the same but close enough.
  • All the trapunto flowers were a part of my wedding in some way
  • Topstitches are English Ivy leaves (also wedding decoration) - both the overall quilt topstitching and the tiny trapunto stitches
  • Since the quilt can't be washed I used Glad Press-N-Seal for my design guidelines. I'm 99% sure I got that idea from a poster here.
  • Batting is mostly cotton but I used wool in the trapunto for some good puff.
  • Embroidery done by machine
  • I used up the remainder and scraps of the dress by making the pillows (sewed the scraps into yardage) and remainder of the supplemental fabric into storage bag (bow was from the dress)
  • I still have a lot of applique pieces leftover
Pictures attached and please let me know if you are curious about anything I did:

Good for you!

Beautiful memories! Better than to let it sit in storage , turn yellow, disintegrate etc.

I love your quilt and pillows. You have certainly learned quilting very well. It's amazing that every time you look at the quilt or pillows you will remember that wonderful day.

I can almost hear the "swish" of that beautiful dress! That was when wedding dresses weren't so sexy as they are nowadays. Gorgeous with the lace and all! How did you bear to cut into that but what keepsakes you have created from the fabric and all the embellishments. You were brave but so creative. Thank you for sharing. Keep enjoying your dress and memories of your wedding day!

You obviously had a vision which motivated you to create this lovely remembrance of your special day. You did an amazing job which resulted in these gorgeous pillows and quilts. WOW.
