May I ask what items to sew for an animal fundraiser?
 

Hi. I want to help a local shelter raise funds for the many cats and dogs that they have that have medical issues. I am trying to come up with something that wouldn't take a ton of time that I can make a bunch of. I am happy to invest a lot of time, but it wouldn't be practical to spend hours on just one thing. I thought of potholders, but I guess some people can get them at the dollar store...lol.

What do you think about mug rugs? The shelter will be having a few fundraisers in September.

Any ideas would be so appreciated. Thank you very much!

How about some neck kerchiefs for the animals. Little Kleenex pouches. These are quick and easy.

If you have a serger, you could make a lot of little blankets for dogs. I just took two pieces of fleece and made an oval using a plate for the corners to cut them and stitched the two pieces of fleece together, I made mine so they easily fit into a medium sized kennel. Around here, we had pretty good sales on fleece and you also may be able to pick up remnants. I also have made them out of blue jeans.

Or even a bit bigger as vase mats?
And in another twist ... you mentioned pot holders ... my mug rugs double as pot holders!
Or perhaps, simple placemats for humans? Even done as singles, rather than matchy sets!

How about? ..... dog/cat placemats? for under their food/water dishes?

While the first thought is towards animal themed prints and items, I don't think it "needs" to be just that. Of course, that might be one of the pre-requisites for the contributions.

Have my thinking hat on for other simple contributions that could be great $$ generators! Looking forward to seeing what other ideas come forth!

About the only hand crafted item I buy are the crocheted nylon pot scrubbers. Love those things. They make great stocking stuffers, too.

Small change purses? My change is always floating around the bottom of my purse.

Small wallets ?

Wrist or ankle or upper arm wallets for runners and walkers - holds ID, keys, inhaler, tissues.

wonder if one could make some kind of hanger or holder for the towel that some use to wipe off the dirty paws when the "kids" come back in the house with dirty footies.

Remember how guys would put a pack of cigarettes in their t-shirt sleeve and roll it to hold the pack?

String backpack to hold a bottle of water.

I've been trying to come up with a way to carry my canes when I'm not using them. I carry two of them when I'm walking, but I don't always use them.

Bag to tuck under mattress for puzzle book and pen/pencil 0 or whatever .

People seem to love or hate the towels with the crocheted top.

"good" potholders are always useful. I've used worn out terry towels for the "batting" in them. Works well.

Re Cane Carriers ... how about a loop around the handle, to put your wrist through?

Kids placemats .... Cut out fabric in shape of an animal and serge around the edge. Only need to use one fabric, as the shape is what will be the hit!

Casserole carriers? We wrap the dish up in a bath towel and transport it in a small laundry basket. My kids used to be soooo embarrassed when we schlepped stuff in a laundry basket to wherer. Now they do the same thing. And they have their names on their baskets!

Luggage tags?

I make a lot of small cross body bags that hold a cell phone and a small wallet that I make to go with it. It's lightweight and holds the essentials to make a quick trip to the grocery store. I make them 8" tall because so many of the new cell phones are huge. I have one and I take it with me on my morning walk.
