The last thread I found on here for YouTube and podcast recommendations was from 2019.

I'm looking to branch out my quilting YouTube channels, maybe we have some to exchange?

I tend to shy away from those run by large quilting companies/stores. I don’t enjoy videos or tutorials that are basically an infomercial: buy this in house fabric kit (ca-ching) use this template (ca-ching) and our special pins and rotary cutter (ca-ching ca-ching)! I have also slowly gravitated away from channels that have a big emphasis on speed and throughput. I felt like I was internalizing this message that there was some sort of race or expectation on how fast I complete projects.

I really enjoy channels where the outcome isn’t always perfect or they leave in mistakes and show some unsewing along the way. I like a conversational style, and enjoy creativity or improv along the way, helps me remember to think outside the box too. I am very interested in following sewing/quilting channels that focus on reusing/up cycling vintage or older fabrics, as that’s usually what I am working with.

I like the Missouri Star videos and will always watch those. I like Fabric Cafe videos they are always uplifting and fun. I use to watch Donna Jordan but lost interest along the way. The Last Homely House sometimes is just too much for me, just too much focus being laid back I guess. But I admire her. Dave's Craft room is a hoot. I laugh in a good way watching those. Videos I don't care for are quilting persons with lots of tattoos showing. I keep thinking they need a bath. I watch quilting you tube when I'm in my sewing room so probably have seen all the quilt ones new and old. I have ad free youtube because I watch so many of quilting ones. I like the quilt shop videos that open the new arrival of fabrics. I don't watch the live selling of fabric from the shops that have that. I search for specific techniques or features, troubleshooting on sewing machines and new quilting tools. How to use a special ruler.
I watch too many to list and there are great learning videos from the quilting greats you can find by doing a search.

I like the ones that don't have a lot of extra jibber-jabber. As much as I like Alex Anderson, I can't watch her shows for that reason. I like Donna Jordan's videos, although I rarely like any of the quilts enough to make them. Listening to her run that rotary cutter through the fabric relaxes me, lol. I also like Angela Walters Midnight Quilt Show, although I don't think it's being produced anymore.

I really enjoy, The Catbird Quilts on youtube. She is from Alabama and has lots of videos on using mens dress shirts for fabric. If you are not from the South, her accent may get to you. But, I'm originally from Mississippi so, I understand her fine.

You could try "Just Get it Done Quilts" from/by Karen Brown. She is a (local) Canadian and her approaches are different that most of the others I am familiar with. I like her varied topics.

@Peckish Donna’s rotary cutting has this district sound and tempo. If someone played it in a crowded room at a quilt expo a bunch of us would perk up and tilt our heads looking around for Donna Jordan. Shhhhhhrrooomp!

I have watched and re-watched her video on quilt finishing (it’s my first and primary reference for binding technique) and am working on her fall leaves table runner. Most of the quilt patterns she does aren’t my taste but I like the way she talks and teaches, so I still like to watch and listen. Also her video on quilt tying with her husband is a very good beginner level demo.

@toverly thank you for the recommendation. All accents are welcome on my YouTube subscription list! I also have a small pile of dress shirts that may need a purpose, so I’m excited about this! I saw a really cute handbag online made from a free shirt and tie. Being me, I went out and thrifted enough to make 5. Never made one. Proud owner of 5 men’s dress shirts and ties for several years now. *hangs head in shame*

I recently discovered this set of YouTube videos for grid based quilting. They are from 7 years ago but I like the idea and when I get around to quilting a pinwheel party quilt, I plan to use this idea. Whether I can pull it off or not is another discussion. But she makes it seem doable. There is a series of 52 videos each with a different design.

There maybe an "oops" but she makes the correction and goes on. She is warm and friendly and encourages trying new things along the way. Uses scraps, teaches clearly one block at a time and shows how to press the seams so the piece lays flat. I particularly like Free Pattern Friday but her Blue Monday series is good too. I have not watched the Y-seam Wednesdays but assume they are just as good. She always starts with a shout out to another site and honestly, I skip them. No commercials or selling of items.
