Opinions needed - sashing
 

This a BOW sew along with Andover designers that I participated in this year (two blocks to come). All stash, for once!

I was thinking that since my blocks are so busy with texture and my backgrounds subdued (I think this might be the lowest contrast quilt I've made), the best thing might be to just use a cream sashing, similar to the effect shown.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

I agree with the cream. Any colored fabric would overpower the other colors.

I would go with Kona Snow myself. Beautiful quilt, not a block that I didn't like and want to make myself.

I, too, am undecided when choosing sashing. Also the width of borders. There must be a guide somewhere for border widths. In fact, I would sign up for a workshop for borders.
Anyway, I shy away from ivory or white because I am a messy person! Perhaps a darker brown?

I think it is a draw as to whether you want snow or cream. Try them both. IMHO, if you want to your sashing to remain subtle, the cream would be my choice. For a more dramatic look I would use the red/rust/burgundy that is in your blocks. It can becomes a neutral when used as a frame to show off the blocks. But, I do like your choice of cream as a way to blend back into your blocks. This is the grand part about quilting or crafting or just home decor. Options,that fit your own personal leanings.

brown (maybe just all mixed from what you've used in the quilt, and the blue or red cornerstones, or mixed cornerstones from what you've used in the quilt. and me being me, I'd turn them on point.

I love on point blocks in a quilt. It's so much more interesting that just a line of blocks.

Your blocks are beautiful! And I like your idea about the sashing. Perfecto!

On point can be very dramatic but so much more work and so many more possibilities of stretching. You would have to re-figure the final size, decide if you want to cut some blocks in half for the edge triangles or go with another fabric. Plus, to minimize stretching, you cannot leave it on the design wall. (ask me how I know)

I like the creme sashing. It shows off the blocks. I would go with coloured cornerstones. That would tie everything together. You don't really need a wide border unless you want a larger finished product. I would make the border the same size as the sashing and finish with a binding in one of the colours in the blocks. Your blocks are lovely and your quilt will be absolutely beautiful.

You really won't know until you audition a lot of colors even prints. I have seen some amazing sashing choices that weren't supposed to work but turned the quit from beautiful to stunning.
