Wish I Had Bought One Sooner.

A few months ago, I was poking around on Joann's website because I needed some backing material and batting. They were having a sale at the time so I bought a June Tailor slotted ruler (12 inch). Oh my gosh, I wish I had bought one sooner. I have looked at them before, but never purchased one. I wasn't sure how much use I'd get out of one. It definitely makes cutting squares so much quicker, especially when you need umpteen million of them (slight exaggeration here). I still screw up on some cuts where the ruler might slip a little and have to make some more, but not like when I was using my 6" x 24" ruler. The slotted ruler has become my go to tool now.

My friend also swears by hers. Me, not so much. Just made too many wrong cuts for whatever reason. But, she recommends putting a weight on the slotted ruler so that it does not slip as easily.

Love mine too! The trick is to press down with the cutter and not too much to the side. I loaned it to a friend who hated it the slots "moved" on her.

If you brace your fingers of your non cutting hand on the ruler, and then move across, re-setting where you brace each cut, it doens't slip. This is not as cumbersome as it sounds, after you get yourself used to doing this, it becomes second nature and doesn't slip.
A second solution - buy that non skid spray by Odif, do the backside of the ruler and it grips much better....

I went big and got this one (24" x 17"). It is fabulous for getting a bunch of strips cut accurately and fast, and then sub-cutting into smaller units. It has a non-slip coating on the back, and I haven't problems with it slipping. I love being able to set it up once and get a whole bunch of cuts done before anything needs to moved, unlike the cut-move-cut-move process with a plain ruler. (I bought it in 2019; back then the price was $50.)

They worked fine for me until I tried the Stripology brand. What a big difference. It's worth the price.

I absolutely LOVE JT slotted ruler. I used them for years and when I finally broke the first, I quickly bought another. I also own the Stripology ruler but seem to use the JT more often.

I started out with the 12 inch slotted ruler but found I had to fold the fabric too many times to fit so when they went on sale, I bought the larger one and I'm not disppointed at all with my purchase. I gave my other one to a friend just starting out learning how to quilt plus it had cracked at one end but I taped it and it's still usable. Glad you found a great tool.
