Foot pedal problem

In 2013 I bought a Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 when Amazon had a Flash sale (less than $200). I bought it mainly to take with me to classes or Project Linus meet-ups. It's been gently used and has only traveled from AZ to PA when we moved in 2022. I hadn't sewn on it in quite a while, so I got it set up in April, 2024 to give it a run.

I got an error about the foot pedal. It said to release the foot pedal. It would stop sewing and the start/stop button flashed red. I figured it needed a new foot pedal so I ordered one. It's been in the box since April because I put the machine in time-out and haven't used it.

Yesterday, I re-arranged a sewing area and got the machine out. I cleaned it (it wasn't dirty) and changed the needle. I connected the new foot pedal and sat down to test drive it. I was so disappointed when it did the same thing. Now what? Do I have a short in wiring somewhere, I wonder? Is it worth the cost of getting it repaired?

Does anyone else have this machine? Did you have a problem with the foot pedal? What did you do?

I watched this, thank you, but it doesn't address my problem.

Take the original foot pedal apart and clean it. You may find a bunch of lint, hair, thread, and dirt inside, and simply cleaning it will solve your problem.

I'm not sure I would be willing to mess with a computerized sewing machine. However, many times a service manual will address some issues. I found a service manual for the Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 at https://www.manualslib.com/manual/28...page=23#manual I also found a reddit post that seemed to indicate it may be a fuse per a reply by ladybugmyheart at https://www.reddit.com/r/sewhelp/com...ing/?rdt=47610
There is also a question about this problem on sewing.patternreview but don't know if it got settled https://sewing.patternreview.com/Sew...s/topic/114902
it wasn't on the first page and I'm not a member to see the second page.

I checked the second page of Pattern Review. One of the posters said to contact Singer support. There were quite a few owners of this machine that posted, so it must be a problem with this model. Anyway, one of the posters called singers 800 number and they told her to take it to a Singer warranty dealer. It so happened that she was in California and the dealer was in Idaho. So she gave up on that. There was no resolve in the other postings. I would call Singer and tell them, there seems to be an issue with this model, what can they do to help fix it. Sometimes vacuuming the connection on the machine helps with this issue. I had a problem years ago with a New Home (Janome made) machine, cleaned the connection hole and the foot pedal worked.
Another time, I took apart the foot pedal and found carpet fuzz inside, cleaned it out and the foot pedal worked. Be careful if you take apart the foot pedal, there is a spring inside with some models and the spring will go flying across the room. ask me how I know.
Call a Singer dealer and talk to their technician. Ask him what he thinks it could be and how much the cost would be to fix it.
It would be highly unusual if you had two foot controls be bad....but I guess it could happen. I would ask the technician if they have a foot pedal that works on your machine that you could test with. Best wishes in finding an answer.

Thanks for the input. I don't think the problem is with the foot pedal and I'm not going to take it apart to look. It does the same thing with a brand new foot pedal so the issue might be something electrical. The machine is back in the closet. No Singer dealers around and I'm not sure I want to take it to the nearest repair place, which is about 50 miles one-way. If it was an expensive machine, I'd see about getting it fixed but I think I'll list it for sale and say what the problem is. I have 5 other machines. Need to thin the herd, anyway :)
