Jelly Roll Rugs

I've been seeing a lot of jelly roll jugs being made lately and one of them was in the style of I think it's called Fence Rail pattern. My question is this. Do you stitch the rows together, then cut to size or cut to size each rail, stitch it to the next one? I'm thinking it would be easier to stitch all the rails, however many for each blocks, say 4 rails in long rows, then cut to size and stitch them into a block. I asked on Facebook Jellyroll Rugs but never got an answer or it's so far down the list I couldn't find it.

Any help with this question would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have a photo of the rail fence rug? I looked on Pinterest and didn't find one. I'm wondering how the edges are treated. They would have to be finished (I would think) in some way. Interesting concept...I'd love to see one.

I'm sorry but I have no idea of this type of jelly roll rug. I've made several of the regular oval ones but have no idea of the type you are asking about. It sounds interesting!

snooze, if someone responds to you directly there is a notification in the upper right corener

I started two because I think they are beautiful, and shortly into the projects unstitched them. I think because I can see them close up they don't look beautiful with the zigzagging :) I've never seen any bot oval or round.

Found this TY video. Interesting! BTW, I cut my own JR strips from Indoor/Outdoor fabric because it hold up to foot traffic.
I've also made smaller oval "rugs" to use as a hot pad next to the microwave. About the size of a casserole dish.
I'm gonna try this method to make a square trivet!

Sewgood, someone here sent a video on youtube that showed how to make a rectangle split rail type. Look for "aashley333" #5. I watched the video, so thank you.

It also showed how they finished it with a binding like you do for most quilts.

So thank you all for responding so quickly to my request.

I watched that YT video and today I'm going to give it a try. I save all my leftover binding strips from quilts I make and cut my own batting strips. My "binding drawer" is overflowing so this is the perfect thing.
Thanks for posting that video!
