Just finished my first quilt. Featuring.... dogs!

This morning I finished binding my first ever quilt. The theme is "dogs"!! It uses fabric from Jessica Swift's "Oh, Woof" collection.

Amazingly I was able to quilt this twin-sized quilt (68x80") on my cheapo Janome machine (cost $225 off Amazon a few years ago). I had to make sure the dogs were all facing in the same direction, LOL.

Thanks for the recommendations on quilting on the diagonal, I decided to do wavy lines in both directions (3" apart) to ensure that the batting was secured.

Note I used a recommendation from this forum to use an ironing board to support the bulk of the quilt on my left while quilting & binding.

I think DH was mortified when I mentioned I started this after getting the fabric & pattern on Black Friday 2024 - so it only took me a month+ to make it.

He keeps saying "what will you do with all these quilts?"...

Off to make my first two blocks of Aby Dolinger's Optimism BOM 2025 quilt. Help me, I'm hooked!

Very cute quilt. I'm actually looking at estate sale for one of those little glass cabinets to display my quilts. I made 3 this year for Christmas gifts (which I promise to post pics of now that my move is over) and I'm gathering fabric now for a baby quilt for my hair stylist. She told me that she's pregnant so I have until April or so, but I'm pretty slow so I'm going to start soon.

I am excited for you because you've done a lovely job on your first quilt and you have good times to look forward to. Sewing and quilting will bring you much happiness. You have a great start!

Nice quilt--things look neat and tidy !

Congratulations! You did a great job--much better than my first quilt! As for being hooked, well, quilting is 'slightly' cheaper than psycho-therapy and the end result is very rewarding (no matter how many bad words might have been spoken during the process:D)

Looks great, and you have picked the best possible first subject for your quilt!

Don’t worry about what to do with them; make quilts because you enjoy making them. Keep ‘em, give ‘em as gifts, donate ‘em, whatever. It’s a hobby!

welcome to the quilting world. I look forward to seeing all your future quilts. This is very impressive for a first quilt. Love your fabric placement

Wow! You are off and running with your love for quilting! How did you get the quilting bug? Isn't playing with fabric fun?
You did a wonderful job of piecing and quilting. There will always be someone in need of a quilt so tell your DH not to worry about what you will do with all the quilts you make. I will look forward to your next quilting....adventure. :)
