Top Thread Keeps Breaking and Coming out of Needle
 

Hi. I recently got this Brother DB2-B737-413 which is considered an industrial sewing machine that is not as heavy duty as a Juki 1181 but it was described as between and Juki 1181 and a Juki 2010Q so it can sew thicker fabric than a Juki 2010Q which I need for sewing mats for rescues. Just wondering if anyone has this machine and what thread they are using, please. The place I got it from said I can use any thread that can be used in a Juki 2010Q. I have been using Glide polyester thread that I use in my Juki 2010Q but the thread on top keeps breaking and coming out of the needle. I sew a few lines and then it happens. I would like to try a different thread. What thread works for you?

Btw, I had changed the needle.

I don't know the machine .... butttt ..... when that sort of a thing happens to me, the first thing I do is unthread the machine fully, both top and bottom. Then re-thread. Sometimes that's all that is needed.

My end conclusion has usually been that I had something threaded wrong!

With it being such a new-to-you machine, per chance it's as simple as that?

I have serveral Janome machines and can use Aurifil, Connecting Threads, Missouri Star, and Craftsy (older spools). Have you checked the tension dial for a burr? You can try threading the take up lever in the opposite direction...go right to left instead of left to right. I've read where this can help. Are you using wool batting on your rescue mats? If so, try a needle with one size larger eye as that is what I use for my Kennel Quilts. Also make sure you are leaving a long enough tail to start sewing with and that the thread has been pulled straight behind to the rear of the pressure foot..

When I have that issue, it is usually my needle that needs changed. I see you stated that you changed your needle, so perhaps the tension is too tight.

I'd give the needle change one more try, and put in another new needle. Sometimes it is also possible that the needle is not put in correctly and the eye is not facing the way it is supposed to.

I use Connecting Threads Essential thread. The machine I use is a Baby Lock Accomplish - High Speed straight stitch.

This might not be applicable, but I had a thread breaking problem on my vintage singer 401. I thought it had something to do with the tension. I talked to the guy whose shop had done the repair. He said it had nothing to do with tension. I have not taken the machine back for the "fix" as he is an hour away, but I'm confident that he will fix it.

Can you turn your needle a little, so the eye is not straight on I had the same problem with my nustyle longarm with the glide so try different thread if it still does it like I said turn the needle and try again.

Could also be a timing issue, with the needle/hook distance. Is the needle touching the hook as it comes up? Or maybe there's a burr on the hook?

Does this machine require industrial needles? That could be the cause. Also, as mentioned, rethreading the machine is what I always do when I have thread breakage. And also as mentioned, trying a different plate if you I have one. Hope you figure it out soon.

I started having the same problem with my Bernina that I've had for 5 year.s. Watched a video on threading it (back to basics). For some unknown reason I started treading it with the presser foot down. Wrong. With the foot down, tension discs are closed and the thread was not going through them so breakage, thread out of the needle.
