What Would You Do With This?
1 Attachment(s)
I rarely buy fabric that I don't have a plan for, but I fell in love with this and bought 3 metres.
What pattern would you use it for? It has to be something with big blocks in order to see the fabric. Watson |
Place mats

Beautiful fabric. I have two pattern for large focus fabric and both are from Vila Rosa Designs. Take a look at Paralleled Search: 5 results found for "paralleled" – Villa Rosa Designs
and Kingpin Search: 5 results found for "Kingpin" – Villa Rosa Designs You cn always make more blocks or add a border to them. |
Maple Island Quilts has a series of patterns called BQ1, BQ2 etc - meant for those lovely feature fabrics we don't want to cut into small pieces. Maybe something from that will peak your interest.
But I also think it would make lovely placemats/table runner as already suggested, with oven mitts/apron to match??? It is a gorgeous fabric! |
Check out 3 yard quilts at Fabric Cafe. There are a lot of patterns that use big blocks for focus fabric. Your fabric is stunning. Do you have the design name and manufacturer?

You are right to show off the fabric in large pieces, that's worth an impulse buy.
I have a collection of fabrics and some ideas for a fantasy quilt. This would fit right in with a lot of my fabric in colors and would be lovely as long columns between columns of pieced blocks. Whether pictorial through paper piecing or simply made of the fantasy fabrics... hmm... mental designer active... Similarly, as a wide border with the interior of the quilt some sort of star/floral shape blocks of the colors from the fabric. |
How about the Big Block quilt by Darlene Michaud? There is a YouTube video for it that is pretty straight forward: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPgmiIL49lw.

Ohh, that is lovely! A pattern with big blocks for sure but no idea which one. I might just sit and admire it for a while until inspiration strikes.

The idea that springs to mind for your fabulous fabric is looking out a window to see the garden.

G'day Watson, Love it!
Iceblossom's idea of columns would show this fabric off, separated by strips of plain or TOT in between, picking one or several colours in the fabric, and I'm also with Tartan, look at it, admire it, fondle, it and one day the ideal use will come to you, let it mature in the stash. ( After all, fabric doesn't go off!) Cheers from Stasher-Downunder |
