Preparing the 108 inch backing fabric ?

Good evening, everyone. I am about to prepare a quilt to send to a LA for quilting. The backing fabric needs to be washed and ironed before it goes off to the quilter. My problem is not washing the fabric, but ironing the backing is a major problem for me. Right now I have medical reasons I cannot do the prolonged standing or the strength of ironing that much fabric. Have any of you sent the backing to a Dry Cleaners for pressing? I want to so the washing, so I make sure it is washed in hot water and shrinks. Any other options would be appreciated. I do not want to leave it unwashed, the large backing fabric tends to shrink.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

If it well behaved fabric, it should come out of the dryer fairly wrinkle free.

Youod your long armer consider pressing it for an additional fee?

Pressing widebacks is a brute!

Yes, you could send it to a dry cleaners. Just ask for it to be pressed.
Best to check your price first.

Some long armers will press it for you ... of course, for a fee!
One good thing, if you can get the LA'er to do it for you, then you don't have to worry about it getting wrinkled after pressing and before you deliver.

Good Luck!

I just starched and presse some wide backing but only 2 yards of it but still 108" wide. And yes, it's a pain but I'm using it as background fabric on the front of the quilt. I normally never wash or press my backings ever but then I'm the quilter also. Never thought you had to do that.

I use to send all my fabric to the cleaners to be washed and pressed. I counted it as part of the cost of making the quilt and it was fair priced. Now there is not one cleaner in my city. Not one! I fold my backing to fit my ironing table and steam press but do not press on the fold line. This works for me.
