Which permanent pen?
 

I need your expertise and opinions!
I am making a quilt for my 50th wedding anniversary.
I would like my guests to sign the quilt.
Which pen/ marker would you recommend and why?

I personally like the Sakura Pigma Micron Markers - they are waterproof and acid free. The 05 which is a .45mm tip works good, but I prefer the 08 size with the .50mm tip as it makes the writing stronger. with it being just a hair wider than the 05 size. I definitely prefer the black to the colors. I use them on the handmade labels I put on my quilts. I haven't had any issues with them running or fading. When I need more I buy a package of all black in the size 08 .50mm.

Be careful that you don't confuse the 005 .20mm as opposed to the 05 .45mm if you are looking for that size.

I've always used the Micron Pigma pens - mainly black - for quite a while. I have given away all the projects I labeled, so I don't really know how well they hold up with multiple washings. After reading that they can fade, I did start using Faber-Castell artist pens in black. No matter what I use, I do heat-set what I write on prewashed fabric. I should do a comparison test someday, but I doubt that I'll ever get around to it!

How do you ‘heat set’ the script?

Generally "heat setting" means you put a hot iron on it. How hot, I'm not sure.

I ordered the Micron pens. Thanks! I had to make a label quickly, so I used a Sharpie because that is all I had. Ewww, It bled, but I attached it anyway. Never again!

Aashley, some sharpies aren’t permanent, which I didn’t know until I messed up something. It has to say so on the pen.

I thought that being permanent was part of “sharpieness,” but alas.
