Aby Dolinger Blue and White HST quilt - via exchange

I just read Aby Dolinger's post about exchanging blue and white HSTs with a group of friends and then turning it into a quilt. One of the things I love about her group's exchanged is that they all used the same background fabric - a white with grey dots print. More interesting than a solid white, and gives the quilt a cohesive look!

Aby's finished quilt used 200 HSTs in it. Her group of 5 people were mailing each other 8 HSTs once a month for "about 6 months" A really clever thing is that they did had each participant "make the HSTs a bit over-sized and each recipient will square them up to the desired size for her particular project" Love that! (They cut 5" squares for the two at time HST method, that could be squared up to 4.5".

What a fun way to get a large variety of fabrics for a quilt! I'm envious. :)

I just went and looked. That’s really clever as an exchange idea, and I loved the variety of quilts!

reminds me of all the quilts that came out of edyta sitar's triangle exchange a few years ago.
I'm working on a scrappy 1/2 sq triangle quilt right now, and I'm so thankful for my accuquilt :)
mine is based on Bonnie Hunter's Sugar Grove coloring idea, mine are 2" finished, no idea what size her's are.

Several years ago, Aby did a trunk show at one of the guilds I am in, and a class the next day. She's a great speaker.

The trunk show focused on exchanges she had done over many years, and how to deal with those blocks that come back a *bit* wonky. I will admit that many of the exchange blocks I have received over the years were put aside as I didn't want to deal with making them work. Aby made each and every one shine, whether through cutting them down or adding coping strips as needed.

If you ever get the chance to see her, I highly recommend it.

I like how her group handled this exchange, and that quilt is gorgeous!

Kalama, I love that BH pattern! I may give it a try.

I asked Aby what size the HSTs were and she said they had all started with 5” squares. So I’m assuming they are about 4.5”. Love the blue and white color scheme!
