Tapeing it in place

Last week while useing my walking foot on my Janome 1600P the distance bar was loose and wobbly and would shift if bumped by the quilt when moved around. Kept having to adjust it to the correct distance again and again. Finally grabbed some blue masking tape and secured the bar in place. Of course I'll have to redo this everytime I'm using it for a different space, but that's no big problem. Anyone else do this?

Oh yes! My first distance bar thing wouldn't stay in place without some sort of stop. I used to use the white medical tape and would have to periodically clean the bar with rubbing alcohol to take off the adhesive but that was back in like the 70s before blue tape and post its!

People tease me, but in my portable sewing supplies I try to always have a roll of blue tape. So many uses. The other day I changed my rotary blades at my sewing group. (Ahhh, all three cutters have fresh blades) I was able to wrap the edges of the old blades in tape for safer handling. Otherwise that day I was using it to help pick threads off the project. I picked up a bottom of the line Brother at the thrift store and was able to use it to make masks during covid, but I had to blue tape down the whole machine or chase it around the desk top...

I keep a roll of blue painters tape in my travel sewing kit and use it for all kinds of things. Markers on my ruler so I don’t have to count each time, sewing line on my machine, the list is a long one. I have several rolls in different widths in my studio. Next to a rotary cutter, blue tape is my next best tool.

Thanks for the idea ! I have a distance bar for my Bernina, but it will only work with a certain foot. That foot does not allow me to use the dual feed attachment. Using the dual feed attachment is like using a walking foot. So....I want to use my walking foot (dual feed) to straight line quilt, but can't use the distance bar to keep my lines equidistant. Someone please make that make sense....So now I will try the blue painter's tape to hold that distance bar in place.
