Bicentennial Quilt
Hello!
I knew this answer at one point, and I think I saved digital copies, but I forgot where. I was 15 in 1976. At some point the local newspaper was printing line drawings to be made into a quilt to celebrate our nation's history. They were published weekly? I think there was one of an Indian girl. Pocahontas? See, you can tell I am old; I should have used Indigenous person. I would like to find them again. I just loved the Bicentennial. So many things to learn! Can anyone help me? I have been googling a bit, but I need more info. I just love old quilt patterns! |
There are a lot of vintage quilt patterns for the 1976 bicentennial listed on eBay.

Your local newspaper may have a digital archive. Check/google online, call the paper, or go to your local library for a link.

Hello Ivorylibby, we are almost the same age, I'm one year older (born in 1960). I still remember the tall ships, that was a big deal.
I don't credit the bicentennial for starting me quilting, was already a crafty kid, but it did certainly did help the already growing back-to-basics crafting trend. I've had some fun doing some googling, and among other things found the Bicentennial Logo available as a quilt pattern from the Gerald Ford presidential library, from Grand Rapids where my husband is from. In my googles I did see a number of quilts which seemed to be from the same set of designs, don't know if that is what you are looking for but I haven't found the patterns, just the quilts. |

For mine I did a 1776 on top of a Bald Eagle nest with a words stating "Bicentennial Birthday" under the nest on the top of a cake and the year 1976 on the side of the cake.
I don't have the quilt or pictures of it anymore as my sister took everything to a storage shed and then burned everything I owned in it without my knowledge or permission. |
I thought you were looking for a pattern.

Bicentennial Quilt
The publishing company, Oxmoor House put out a series of books called Great American Quilts. When I did a search of them under Bicentennial quilts. all sorts of information came up about quilts made then. There is even a book on American quilts from the 1700's to 1950's. Have fun finding the pattern you want. Sometime the fun is in all the things you find to look at.
