Setting up a new Long Arm cost.
 

The local dealer had a good sale on long arm machines and frames. Of course I had to look at them. One lady was interested in buying one and did. This was the top of the line long arm with all the robotics, red snappers, etc. The dealer said the set up of the LA would be $500 for one of her trained employees to come do it for her. This surprised me. I guess I thought the set up would be included. is this the norm?

I think it depends on area, but I think generally it is an extra service. I know, seems like they could throw it in for the cost of it all, but not everyone needs or wants the help. I think it is pretty reasonable and would be well worth it for me. Their experience is worth paying for. You can watch and learn instead of learning as you go...

I was looking at used machines, basically all set-ups are both take down/set up responsibility of the buyers. The table set up I bought was extremely heavy, it is all one (welded!) piece. Marital harmony is being disrupted that it (my used set up) is still not set up, and I'm thinking $500 sounds pretty good after more or less a year of waiting for his help. Ok, half that time I couldn't see and didn't want it set up, but that time is over now!! If this had been more of an aluminum grace frame I would have had it set up long ago but even a light weight frame is helped by having two people.

I would pay for it as well but never thought of the cost as being extra. I think after paying thousands then hearing oh for $500 more, is a little jarring.

It cost me $500 for mine to be set up back in 2012 and that was without robotics. I think when I had the robotics set up by another company, it also was $500 so that seems to be the going price.

Good to know and be prepared if anyone is thinking of saving for a long arm.

When I purchased my sit down with the table the dealer not only delivered the entire thing, they also set everything thing up for free.

Wow! $500, even in US dollars, would be a bargain here. The expertise is well worth paying for, especially if you are a newby to longarming. When I got my used machine, DH and the seller's husband dismantled it, taking pictures and labeling EVERYTHING!! But even with all the pics and the manuals and online help, the reassembling process had some hiccups. Having a dealer come set everything up,even though it was a used machine, was going to be over $1000 CAD. Of course, living in the boonies makes any service more expensive.

WOW When I bought mine, the set up was included in the price, even with my home being 2 hours away from the shop. I do pay mileage when he comes for service but the set up (while I am sure it was built in somewhere in the price) was not an add on cost.

I wonder if she was quite far away? Whether it's broken out or included in the final price, I'm sure that the delivery set up is part of the price. Lower price to begin with set up charged separately, or higher price that includes the cost. It'd be interesting to compare.
