What color thread do you use?

When piecing a black and white print -and neither white or black is dominant - what color thread to you use for piecing?

With my small needle and tight stitches, I don't get thread bleed through. I am almost always piecing scraps together, various darks and lights and almost always use a light camel/beige and a light steely gray/blue threads for my top and bottom, these shades tend to blend in/disappear more than others. The two colors do help me see if I am having tension problems, but they are all the same brand of thread.

The only time I bother with thread matching is for the quilting thread, or for garment construction. Otherwise it's beige/grey set up in the machine.

I don't think thread color matters when piecing. I wouldn't use red thread when piecing white fabric but that is common sense not a learned lesson. Use what you think is best suited and you have a lot of to use.

White, I like black in a quilt but hate to sew with it. too hard to see.

My first thought was a medium gray. I think because I would use that color for quilting anything with these colors. That is unless I wanted a quilting that was a standout color. I once used a variegated multicolored thread to quilt the project and it came out great.
But, the gray is best for piecing in my minds eye.

Since I started buying mega-sized spools of thread, almost all of my piecing is with the ecru/beige colour. If working with black I do keep a couple regular sized spools of grey. I think the light is less likely to show up in the black piecing than the dark in the light piecing.

I would use some shade of grey. Either white or black seems to not work out well, but gray is a better blend.

I use an off white or light to medium gray....brand doesn't matter to me as long as it's not Coats and Clark.

I'm not overly fussed about thread color when piecing. Rarely do stitches show. Given 2 choices, light or dark, I'd always go for the light. Dark may show through fabric. If, for some reason, a stitch or two show up on dark fabric, I can always touch them up with a micron or other permanent pen, right?

I've done that for sure. In fact, we were reupholstering my husband's 65 Mustang's seat back in the day. The vinyl ripped a bit when we were stretching it over the foam and the white foam showed thru the red vinyl just a bit. My husband was fussing about it so I said "Hang on. I can fix that". I went and got my red sharpie and colored the little bit of foam red. It didn't show at all! My husband was really happy.
