One insane project and one simple

I asked for Shabby Fabrics laser cut Christmas table runner for Christmas a few years ago. I enthusiastically punched out each little piece, then sorted them by houses, snowman, Santa etc. and put them in individual zip lock baggies. After that overwhelming task, I put it aside for a couple years LOL Well, this was the year............so I fused each individual section to a silicone pressing mat using my light box, then finally ironed all the sections to the blue snowflake background that had been fused with a light weight interfacing. Then I used invisible thread and outline EVERY SINGLE PIECE 1/8" away from the edge. Smaller pieces like the childrens mittens just got tacked with a few stitches. After that it was sandwiched with batting and backing and I quilted outside the houses, stars, reindeer etc. Then there were the buttons, rhinestones, string for reins & mittens to hand sew or fuse after binding. Here are a few pics to show the details:

After this intense project, I needed a break and pulled out another kit from my stash. It was originally going to a granddaughter before her Mom changed the color of her room. Back in the day before Minky, chenille was popular for baby quilts. This is a rug uses 3 panels, exactly placed on top of each other, then sewn DIAGONALLY 1/2" apart, once you place it on top of the backing which had been fused with fusible fleece for stabilizing. Then those channels, leaving the bottom panel intact, are cut using an Olfa cutter to achieve a texture. The rug was bound, and washed on cool with two large bath towels to create more friction to "fray" the edges a bit more.

Wow, two stunning projects so beautiful in their own way!

They both look like intense projects!

So much detail in the "winter" project. How did you keep everything from getting mixed up?

Kudos to you for finishing them!

So much attention to detail in the first project! I'm in awe. And thank you for explaining the chenille process. I bought one of those cutters a long time ago and have yet to use it.

I think your granddaughter might still love the chenille quilt, even if her room's colors have changed.

Doesn't it feel great to have two completed projects? I think both of them look intense and they are both gorgeous.

I can see why you let the first one sit and mull for a while. Yikes! That is a ton of pieces. You didn't let it get the better of your abilities in the end, though. Wonderful finish!

well done, you'll be amazed at your skills when you get the holiday one out in a few months.
I made a jacket with that chenelle (sp?) method, loved it! Long worn out.

Love the chenile! Takes me back a ways. The other looks good but OMG so much work!
