Scrappy car quillow

2 Attachment(s)
I put this quilt together to keep in the car - I’ve for some reason been dying to make a quillow like I remember from the 90’s, and I hadn’t quilted anything larger than a table runner for a couple of years so I needed something simple to get back into it. This quilt is from scraps and stash I had on hand, including a high loft poly batting someone gave me. I hated quilting that thick batting, and I had to add on to the pillow pocket because it was too thick to fold into the one I made from proportions found online. But now that it is done, I do like the look of the thick batting, though I intend never to use any again. I am trying to use up scraps and I did use up most of the short strips left from a quilt I made my son a couple of years ago but I barely put a dent in my supply of strings, which was disappointing.

My son did a couple of string blocks and appliquéd the bunny block for the pillow pocket. The bunny is from a Darcy Ashton book, Bunnies and More.

Great use of your scraps. I had never made a quillow.

You did a lovely job and made some scraps disappear. Great for in the car quillows seem to be making a comeback.

It seemed like it would be great foot the car - the quillow pocket keeps it self-contained and neater, and it’s dual purpose, though it is a better quilt than it is a pillow.

Nice idea. I remember making a couple quillows for my co-workers girls years ago but I have no clue how I made them or if you can even find instructions how to make them. They might come back into fashion as it seems things do come back about every 20 years or so.

Wow! I'd forgotten about quillow. I remember making one back in maybe the 90's? They were very useful and made good gifts for kids.

I have made one quillow quilt, probably back in the 90's like you said. You did a nice job.

Lovely Quillow! My mum made a few quillows and we always took them to sleep overs at friends' houses. She often used a block from the quilt on the quillow pocket - so they looked real snazzy folded up.

I'm going to add a quillow onto my list of things to try.
