My g'daughter

I am so proud of my g'daughter. She has never sewn a thing in her 30 years. She decided she wanted to learn. She bought an inexpensive Janome about 2 weeks ago. She didn’t even know how to thread it, what the parts were called, etc. I gave her my stash because I cannot quilt anymore. I have arthritis in my hands and feet. I would have given her my Janome but I knocked it over and broke it. She has made beautiful potholders, a sleeveless shirt, beautiful head bandanas. They are so well done. No formal lessons. YouTube videos might have been involved. My giving her my stash, threads, and 1/4" foot allows her to experiment. I'm in awe, so is she.

You have a right to be proud - sounds like she is meant to be a sewist.

The genes were there. Planted like seeds sown, just waiting to bloom. And now they have! What a wonderful thing it is to gift your stash to your daughter. You may no longer be able to sew but you can enjoy the journey through your daughter’s adventures into sewing.

How lovely! It must fill your heart to see her using your stash, and I'm sure she is happy to have it.

Iberna, what a wonderful gift to give and now you can watch her play. Your advice from years of sewing will be a treasure for her for years to come. Don't trouble yourself over the broken sewing machine. I am so glad you still had your stash. Enjoy the extra space!

I'm sorry your arthritis has gotten so awful that sewing is no longer possible. Our bodies change so much as we get older.

When I see something she has sewn, I recognize the fabric and I get a thrill to see what she has done. It’s sort of like I’m seeing me cutting that fabric for one of my quilts. I truly loved quilting. I loved everything about it. Now, I’m enjoying it through her.

What a lovely gift - not just the fabric, but the connection you've made with her. Thank you for sharing. :-)
