Singer 301 tension quetion

Today, I've been sewing long strips on my 301 for a Community service quilt. At some point, I realized the upper tension had gone haywire. I have to rip out all those strips.

The question is: What happened? All of a sudden (almost) the tension went from 4 to O. I have no clue what happened. I know I didn't move it.

I just did a machine binding yesterday and it was working normally.

A screw came loose?

Did you happen to change bobbins before the tension went loose? Sometimes it takes me while to load a bobbin right, when changing one.

It does sound like the tension might have worked itself loose, but that was kind of sudden so IDK

Is it possible the nut on the tension stud worked its way loose...or tighter? There should be a little splay outward on that split stud, that is what keeps the nut on. And also makes it a wee bit harder to thread that nut on. If it is easy to thread the nut on the stud, that may be the cause of the change in tension.
