Suitable cutting shears for granddaughter

My 10 yr. old grandd.has been using her Janome Mod. machine since we bought it for her for Christmas 2 yr. ago. She sews with me on her annual visit to Canada from USA. This summer, l found her sewing very proficient for her age. This year for Christmas l'd like to give her some proper dress makers' shears., but l don't wish to frustrate her with ones too difficult to use since she's a slightly built 10 yr. old. I live rurally, and stores here don't have much on display, so l'll be buying online and having them shipped to her. They need to be good sharp ones with a decently long blade to make long smoothe cuts thru fleece, cotton and polysester knits. She sews everything from cushions, pet blankets to skirts and recently remodelled her mom's old housecoat so it'll be wearable another 5 yr. ( l'm so proud!) I'd appreciate name brand, size/ model . Her mom thinks it's a great idea. Thanks in advance.

I still use basic Fiskars for most of my scissors, but my sewing ladies who like their heirloom Gingher scissors are all getting Kai's for their replacements or special needs.

Maybe this is more than your ideal pricepoint, but maybe something like this set with the caveat/discussion that there are sewing scissors and there are scissors use for non-fabrics :)

How nice that you are able to share your sewing love with your DGD during her annual Canadian trips! Good memories for you both.

The question that comes to my mind is ... does she need shears?
Speaking for myself, I find that I so seldom use shears, and opt for the rotary cutter more and more.

Re IceBlossom's suggestion re Kai scissors ... I've heard a lot of good things about them, but have never used them, myself. As mentioned, perhaps it is beyond your pricepoint? With that in mind ... could you have them shipped to her Mom, and just give her one or two pairs for Christmas? Keeping the other for other gifting times?

A Great Grandmother you are!

I would get her Havel scissors to start. Excellent quality and will fit her hands. One pair serrated blade one pair straight blades. I rarely use the long blade shears I have even when cutting yardage, fleece, or pattern cut outs.

I have Gingher and Kia. I use my Kia way more than the Gingher. To me the cut is better. Gingher's have such a pointed end that messes things up for me. I would let my 10 year old great granddaughter us the Kia and not the Gingher's. This is just my humble opinion
