My What was I thinking quilt! aka ... The Color Crystal Quilt
2 Attachment(s)
Firstly, while I visit the board daily and comment I have really fallen behind on posting some of my things, so I am going to correct that today!! This quilt from the start to finish probably took 3 years.
I bought this quilt kit from Craftsy just before they went out of business - and a side note here - I absolutely despise making HSTs, This became known around the house as the "What was I thinking" quilt. The directions ran something like this .... make 280 HSTs using these colors 180 HST using these colors 180 2.5" squares of this color ..... and on it went. I took a vacation after making 30 "Block A"s. "Block B" got accomplished about 6 mo later and then they sat.... staring at me in their respective piles. In the beginning of 2025 I decided they needed to be assembled and matching the seams and points were a never ending task but then the center was done. then next direction was make "9 million" HSTs (slight exaggeration lol but again I really dislike making HSTs) using navy and white - well the quilt was already big enough , so I took a deep breath and threw on a two small borders and called it a day. I used Christy Dillions e2e Curly on it and used the navy as the binding. Then it was done ... Yeah! |
I'm not sure what you were thinking, but I'm thinking that's an amazing quilt! So pretty! And your quilting is awesome. I love that design.

Thank you cashs mom - I have to admit I am really pleased with the outcome!!
|
I hear ya about all those HST's!! Absolutely not my favourite thing to make! But your quilt looks amazing. Kudos for sticking with it and finishing this beauty! And as a newish longarmer, thank you for naming your panto pattern. So much easier to do a search with a name than 'swirly and really pretty'.
And I wanted to add that I too, got carried away with the deals when Craftsy went out of business. I have a couple of kits somewhere in a cupboard and freely admit that the fabric from more than one just got added to the stash instead of being made. |
Beautifull. The two borders you added were just enough.
|
Lovely quilt. I agree on the HST's. Current quilt I am working on is all squares and rectangles since the last two were all made from HST's.
BTW....I miss Craftsy. I used to purchase material from them all the time. Shari |
You may have liked the process, but the end result is so pleasing.. Keep those directions, you may want to make another in a different color way using your best HST method to accomplish the task. You should be very proud of the end result from points to quilting, it is lovely.

Beautiful quilt! The quilting is really fun too.
|
Your quilt looks amazing.

Really nice! I feel your pain over the HST's - I'm working on one with many, many flying geese, like 480 or so . they're been called "flipping flying geese" and I think that's going to be the name of the quilt....
