Nativity Pixel Table Topper
 

I purchased a cross stitch pattern with the 3 separate scenes spaced vertically for a wall hanging. Then I cut and taped them together to fit across my dining table horizontally as a pixel quilt when completed. Ta-dah. It worked! I am so happy with it that it's gonna stay till end of the month! Maybe longer. After all, my stained glass nativity scene stays all year!
It measures 96" by 42", and I used the Fairy Frost fabric line. I had only a 1.5" strip out of 5 yards of the dark blue fabric left over after cutting the binding! My pixels are 3/4".

So pretty and such a big table topper. I agree, if you love it, keep it out all year. I love the lights on the bannister at Christmas so I bought a couple lengths of ivy and combined them with a string of white fairy lights. They stay up all year. As does my twinkle lights on the hall tree and in the "tree" in the corner of my dining room

Just converting a cross stitch pattern to fabric is an incredible undertaking in itself, but then stitching all those small pieces together puts it into the extraordinary category. As a cross stitcher myself, I would love to hear how you kept all the colors organized and the system you used to assemble the final quilt. Did you stitch the rows horizontally, vertically, or by small sectional pieces? I am not a quilt judge, but this is so far beyond blue ribbon work it blows my mind. Kudos to you!

What a work of art you've made! All those tiny pieces would have driven the majority of us insane. So happy you accomplished your goal and completed it.

SueZQ, I use small plastic bowls labeled with the CS symbol to hold the squares(pixels). When the bowl gets empty, I cut 4 more strips to use my new stripology ruler to make the pixels. I use a design board to build 10 rows of 10 pixels for each block. I assemble each column then join those. I look for patterns that are 100x100 stitches in size, but slightly larger will work. Multiply by 0.75 equals 75"x75" more or less. Here's a pic of the design wall in progress. Notice the clips at the bottom to identify.
I quilt them myself on a new sit down longarm. Meander all over. Finally decided to use white thread even though I was worried about all the dark blue. Only broke 3 needles. One literally got imbedded in the template. I learned to take frequent breaks!
